The head coach for DWG KIA, Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun, shared his thoughts and resolution for the 2021 LCK Summer split.
On June 2, the 2021 LCK Summer split media day took place; it was an event that gathered Korean esports media outlets and a coach & a player from each team in the LCK to answer questions.
Due to the travel restrictions imposed by the Korean government with regards to COVID-19, KkOma joined the event through a screen. Almost everyone in attendance chose DWG KIA to be the favorites to win the split; in response to it, kkOma responded, “Lots of people here picking our team to be the favorites puts us under a lot of pressure, so I think it’s going to be a lot harder than the Spring split.” He himself chose T1, and stated, “I think that they’re much stronger than Spring, so we’ll need to work much harder than we did in Spring”.
Due to MSI, DWG KIA only has three weeks to prepare for the Summer split. When asked about the team’s arduous schedule, his response reflected why he’s considered one of the best coaches in League of Legends history. “Personally, it’s unacceptable for a pro to say that you’re tired. You have to adapt to the cards you’re dealt”.
However, due to the team’s arduous schedule, he predicted that the team’s performance will be rocky in the beginning. “Summer split is just around the corner. While I think the team will be a little bit shaky in the beginning, I think we’ll get back on track and bring back great results”.
