Riot Games announced strong viewership numbers for the VCT Masters Reyjkavik Masters 2 LAN championship that took place this past weekend.

In a press release on Wednesday, Riot revealed that the VCT Iceland Grand Finals drew over 1,000,000 concurrent viewers, who tuned in to witness Sentinels defeating Fnatic and claiming a flawless tournament victory for themselves and the NA region. The finals also boasted an 800,000 person average-per-minute audience according to Stream Hatchet who analyzed the data for Riot Games.

“From the beginning, we believed VALORANT had the potential to be one of the largest esports in the world, and the best in its genre," explained Whalen Rozelle, Sr. Director of Esports at Riot Games.  "Masters Reykjavik showcased that potential, delivering nail-biting action to millions of fans - stoking regional rivalries while introducing the next generation of superstars. We’ve been eagerly awaiting our first international competition, and the fan reception across the globe to Masters reaffirms our commitment to investing in the future of this esport.”

The viewership for the event broke the record for VALORANT esports concurrent viewership. According to Riot, Masters Reyjkavik was broadcast across multiple digital platforms in 15 different languages with representatives from seven different geographic regions. Riot also announced during Masters Reyjkavik that they will start new initiatives to expand VALORANT esports into South Asia with the Conquers Championship, focused on reaching out to teams in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and other countries in South Asia. So they aren't done expanding their potential viewer base yet.

The next international VALORANT event will be the Masters 3 Berlin tournament set to take place with the top 16 teams in the world, up from the ten that qualified for Iceland. Masters Berlin will utilize in a similar format to the VCT Iceland event, with qualified teams meeting together to compete in person September 9-19 in Germany. Thousands of teams will compete in the regional Challengers events for the covered slots at the Berlin tournament.
