The Overwatch developers released a new experimental patch on Thursday, May 27th. The new patch includes a highly requested nerf to McCree's damage, as well as a nerf to Baptiste's exo-boot jumping ability and a nerf to Zarya's primary fire. The patch also includes minor buffs to Reaper and Moira. While these changes are not on retail servers yet, the Overwatch developers typically activate most of the changes they test on the experimental patch a couple weeks after adding them to the experimental card.
Overwatch developers nerf McCree, Baptiste, and Zarya
The developers are reverting McCrees reload time and his combat roll distance. His reload time will go back to 1.5 seconds from 1.2 seconds and his combat roll distance was reduced by 20%. According to the developers, these changes should reduce the effectiveness of McCree's infamous Flashbang initiations and reduce any overreliance on Fan the Hammer.
The devs are also giving Baptiste a highly requested nerf for his Exo-Boots. His Exo-Boots charge time went up by 30%, from .7 seconds to 1 second. The Increase shouldn't make a huge difference in his mobility, but it will make Baptiste a little less evasive and frustrating to play against while he is spamming his jump ability to dodge enemy fire.
Zarya's base damage on her primary fire was reduced to 75, down from 95. So her beam damage will now scale from 75 to 170 rather than 95 to 170.
"Zarya's base damage wasn't adjusted after the beam hit detection changes awhile back but she wasn't seeing much use at the time either," wrote the developers in the patch notes. "Now that she has a more dominant presence in a variety of team compositions, we're looking at reducing her beams average damage, though the same maximum damage is still achievable."
Overwatch developers buff Moira and Reaper
Moira's Biotic Grasp resource regeneration is now three times higher while channeling her Coalescence ultimate. According to the developers in the patch notes, this new resource regeneration rate will allow Moira to refill about half of her energy during her ultimate.
Finally, Reaper received a buff that will hopefully restore him to some of his former glory. His Life Steal amount from his Reaping ability was increased from 30% to 35%. He has been struggling to heal enough using his Life Steal ever since the recent weapon damage tweaks to his Hellfire Shotguns. This new change should bring him back to his former self, i.e. impossible to kill while he is shooting a tank.
