In the finals of the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational, Royal Never Give Up battled DWG KIA in a 5-game series. The series was extremely close, but it was RNG who came up on top in the end. After the match, players from DWG KIA and their head coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun joined the media for an online press conference.
The first question headed to DWG KIA mid laner, Heo “ShowMaker” Su, asking about the Zerath pick in game 2, if it was a pocket pick that the team prepared for the series. ShowMaker simply answered that he just picked Zerath because he wanted to.
Just after the match was over, Yan “Wei” Yang-wei had praised Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, saying that he’s a flawless jungler. Canyon responded to the praise, “I also think he’s a flawless jungler,” and also talked about how the jungle meta was. “I think it came down to the draft, but I lost due to my shortcomings in my performance.”
Feeling defeated, the team took two more questions from the media and called it a day. The team’s head coach, kkOma, was asked what the most disappointing moment from today’s series was. He pondered for a bit, and answered, “There are too many to choose from, but I’d say that the first death happened at bot lane in game 5.”
However, kkOma looked as if he’s ready to hit the reset button and buckle up to prepare for the Summer split and Worlds. In the last question for the team, he was asked what he took away from this series, in which he answered, “We lost today because what we’ve prepared wasn’t enough. We’ll make sure to fix the problems that arose from this tournament for the Summer split and Worlds. I really want to win next time”, and remained hopeful for the team’s future.
Despite the team failing to capture the trophy at this year’s MSI, it was announced that LCK is now ranked second in historical performance, thus an additional Worlds spot was also awarded to the LCK.
