Dallas Fuel finally has a Hitscan DPS player again after signing big boss Do-hyeon "Pine" Kim on Monday. Pine is coming out of retirement to take the new role. He was a founding member of the New York Excelsior, a team he competed with for two years before retiring in late 2019. During the inaugural Overwatch League season, Pine earned the nickname Big Boss on account of his showstopping aim on the Hitscan heroes McCree and Widowmaker.

Pine will replace Ki-hyo "Xzi" Jung, who retired from the Overwatch League due to a wrist injury right before the launch of the 2021 season.

Despite losing Xzi at the last minute, Fuel persevered, qualifying to the May Melee and eventually defeating the Shanghai Dragons twice in a row to win their first OWL title this past weekend. Winning the May Melee without a Hitscan player was quite an achievement, especially considering how dominant McCree and Ashe are in the current meta.

During their epic tournament run, Dallas was forced to turn to unconventional tactics, combining Sombra + Tracer, Mei + Sombra, and Tracer + Echo to work around their lack of Hitscan expertise. With Pine on board, the team will no longer need to forge a brand new meta around Dong-ha "Doha" Kim and Yeong-han "SP9RK1E" Kim's flex DPS specialties.

Pine's return is a welcome surprise to long-time Overwatch fans who were sad to see the Big Boss retire before OWL Season 3. When the he retired in 2019, he cited a loss of confidence following the all-tank, all-support GOATs meta that benched him for an extended period of time. He said in a video last year that he was open to returning to the OWL if he regained his confidence, and it seems that he finally has.

Pine will be the only member of the 2021 Fuel roster that didn't formerly compete at Element Mystic. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to playing with this Dallas roster. Pine will debut in Dallas Fuel's match against London Spitfire on May 28th.
