Tyson "TenZ" Ngo will keep playing for Sentinels' VALORANT roster until the end of the VCT Champions Tour: Stage 2 Challengers Finals, the org confirmed Monday. This means that should Sentinels repeat their Stage 1 Masters victorious run and qualify for Masters Reykjavik, they'll have to return TenZ to Cloud9 just before the first international LAN in VALORANT's circuit.
TenZ was loaned out from Cloud9 Blue after Sentinels' star player, former Overwatch League MVP Jay "sinatraa" Won was suspended following abuse allegations. Despite being brought in on the day of the competition, TenZ helped Sentinels achieve a near-flawless run through the playoffs bracket, culminating in a 3-0 clean sweep of FaZe Clan in the finals for the $60,000 first-place check.
After the victory, Sentinels' Michael "darp" Gulino has also stated that TenZ's wish is to stay on Sentinels going forward and this loan extension is the first step. Whether TenZ's loan is transitioned to a more permanent one remains to be seen, but since he's involved with Cloud9 Blue as a streamer and not a competitor and it seems he wants to keep winning titles, a buy-out might not be out of the question in TenZ's future.
To get to the VCT Stage 2 finals, however, Sentinels will have to do better than their previous showing. An upset loss to Built By Gamers (13-5, 13-5) in the Challengers 1 Qualifier has now left only one shot for the reigning VCT champions: win Challengers 2 through the open qualifier, or surrender the throne — and the chance to play at the Iceland LAN — to another org.
