The FFAR and the AUG were finally nerfed by Raven Software on Tuesday. The move came after weeks of widespread complaints across the Warzone community that the two guns were too dominant.
The FFAR 1, which was the biggest offender for most players, had its ADS speed decreased. As a result, it should take more time for players to line up their sights on a target, which will functionally decrease its time-to-kill slightly.
"The FFAR is a jack of all trades," Raven said in the patch notes. "It has the damage profile and range of an AR as well as the fire rate of an SMG. The FFAR's wholesale efficacy has it edging out SMG's at ranges we're not satisfied with. . . We are bringing the FFAR a bit more in line with what you expect from an AR - damage and range at the cost of handling."
The AUG had its recoil increased, so that it will now be more difficult to line up consecutive bursts than it was pre-patch.
"Burst weapons ride a fine line between inefficient and oppressive," Raven explained in the patch notes. "The intent of this change is to maintain the weapon's identity of being a powerhouse while making it a bit more difficult to wield. right now we feel it is too easy to stay on target given how lethal [the AUG] is."
The developers also fixed a bug with Groza in Tuesday's patch, where the 16.5" Mil-Spec barrel was bypassing damage falloff completely. This is a huge nerf to the recently buffed Groza.
Time will tell if Tuesday's changes to the FFAR 1 and AUG are actually able to dismantle the dominance of these two rifles in Warzone. One thing is for sure, Raven needed to do something, since even some of their most loyal content creators like Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beam were starting to lose their patience with the FFAR and AUG meta.
