Sledgehammer Games is reportedly developing the next Call of Duty title, and referring to the new project as "Call of Duty WWll: Vanguard" in their internal documentation. This new information comes as part of a report from ModernWarzone that was published on Monday.

"Per Sources, Call of Duty 2021 is Tentatively Titled WWII: Vanguard," the report claimed. "This is clearly a code name / working title and will be changed in the future, but this is our first look at the potential title of the next entry for Call of Duty."

If true, this new information confirms that the next COD game will return to the WWll theater for the sixth time in the COD main series history, with the last World War 2 title being Call of Duty: WWll in 2017. The new information also casts doubt on the rumors that the next COD game would be partially set during the Korean War in the 1950's, since World War 2 ended five years before the Korean war started.

The report also confirms that Sledgehammer Games is the main developer for the new game. Sledgehammer has been the developer or assistant developer on five COD games since 2011, including developing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2014 and Call of Duty: WWll in 2017.

Just like with Call of Duty Black Ops: Coldwar, We can expect the new World War 2 focused title to make its mark on Call of Duty: Warzone. At the very least, we should see the addition of a variety of World War 2 weapons and vehicles from the new game, and we could even see a full World War 2 themed map in Warzone if we are lucky.

Activision Blizzard typically announces their Call of Duty titles in May, so we can expect to learn more official details about the game in the next couple of months.
