On day 38 of the 2021 LCK Spring split, Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports defeated their respective opponents, continuing on the close race for 2nd place between the two teams.
In the first match of the day, Gen.G defeated DWG KIA with a set score of 2-1. It was a meaningful victory for Gen.G in many ways. Not only did they defeat the ‘Goliath of the LCK’, their gameplay itself looked crisp and clean as well. The victory was a much needed one for them to solidify themselves in 2nd place.
Gen.G’s bot lane, Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Kim “Life” Jung-min were at the center of Gen.G’s victory. On Jinx-Thresh in game 1 and 3, they put on a clinic of what it really means to be the carries for their team. Jinx’s damage was off the charts, and Thresh’s skill usage was damn near perfect in teamfights.
On the flip side, despite DWG KIA solidifying themselves in 1st place, they suffered their 2nd loss of the split. Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee did not look like he was performing at his peak. While he still looked very good at catching kill angles, he was unnecessarily caught out multiple times throughout the series. On a team level, Gen.G seemed to outclass DWG KIA in the series as well.
In the second series of the day, HLE managed to take the dominating victory against KT. With a monstrous lead by HLE’s bot lane, they continued to snowball the game. Despite having Baron Nashor stolen, it did not hinder HLE’s advances to victory. With the infernal dragon soul and many major objectives taken by HLE, they took the lead 1-0.
In the following game, KT decided to sub out Lee “HyBriD” Woo-jin and sub in their rookie bot laner, Oh “Noah” Hyeon-taek. However, after taking a small lead in the early game, KT weren’t able to snowball their advantages to victory. HLE’s jungle-support duo gained leads wherever they went, and their snowball quickly grew. Eventually, KT weren’t able to handle the poke from HLE, and the series ended 2-0 for HLE.
