The Super Smash Bros. community was collectively frustrated when Twitch seemingly refused to unban Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada's channel upon his return.
Nairo was accused of grooming and having sexual relations with fellow Super Smash Bros. pro player Zach “CaptainZach” Lauth when he was a minor. When the situation came to light, Nairo was dropped from NRG and was banned from Twitch. At the time, Nairo also left social media as the drama grew.
At the time, it was also said that CaptainZach had forced himself on Nairo while he was asleep in order to blackmail him for money. This was seemingly proven with screenshots later on. When Nairo returned to the Smash scene in early February, he claimed that the "legal situation" had been dealt with and an agreement had been reached.
While the Smash community fought to "free Nairo" over social media, some individuals noted that an agreement being reached didn't necessarily mean Nairo was innocent. But Nairo's supporters continued to argue that Nairo should be allowed to compete in tournaments and stream on Twitch again.
Collision Gaming Series unbans Nairo after outcry from Smash fans
It seems as though the Smash community's continued fight to "free Nairo" has started to pay off. Collision Gaming Series is the first event to review Nairo's appeal and lift his ban. On Twitter, the tournament organizers also stated that Nairo will not be able to appear on Twitch since he's a "banned streamer."
The responses have been positive so far. Collision Series was flooded with "W" memes from the Smash community. Fans appeared very excited about Collision's choice to allow Nairo to play competitively once again.
But this is only the beginning of the push for Nairo's full return to Smash. Later today, Smash players are attempting to get the hashtag #UnbanNairo trending on Twitter. Friday the community will be spamming #Justice4Nairo.
A lot of people in the Smash community believe that Nairo was manipulated and blackmailed by CaptainZach, who has admittedly blackmailed other Smash players with similar tactics. Even CaptainZach's former friend, Saleem "Salem" Young, has come out to support Nairo after evidence came to light against the young former pro player.
"We want Nairo unbanned because we want justice first and foremost," one Smash fan tweeted.
The goal is to get Nairo his Twitch channel back and to allow the player to participate in competitive tournaments once again. With Collision Series' decision, it seems that other event organizers may follow as the Smash community continues to speak out in support of Nairo.
Nairo has yet to make a statement on his ability to compete in Collision Series.
