On Feb. 20th, day 24 of the 2021 LCK Spring split took place, where Gen.G defeated NS RedForce 2-0. In the second match of the day, DWG KIA defeated Hanwha Life Esports 2-1, with the bot laner for DK, Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun scored his 1000th kill in the LCK.
Gen.G took game 1 in the most traditional Gen.G way. After creating a huge advantage in the top lane and getting the enemy Cassiopeia behind, Gen.G focused on objectives and continued to gain advantages. While NS RedForce tried to stick to their colors and showed promise in the mid-game teamfights, they were unable to close the gap and had to watch their nexus fall.
Unlike game 1, NS RedForce managed to get through their laning phase well in game 2. However, Gen.G was on top of NS when it came to mid-game teamfights, where Kim “Rascal” Gwang-hee’s Renekton and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s Xayah managed to be the carries that Gen.G needed to close out the series 2-0.
In the second match of the day, HLE managed to take the series lead, as they defeated DK in game 1. With an advantageous draft from HLE, their bot lane were able to pressure their lane, which freed up pressure around the map. While HLE looked like they were struggling in the late game, Oh “Vsta” Hyo-seong’s late game engages were just what they needed to close out game 1.
Game 2 was all about DK’s jungler, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu dominating Summoner’s Rift. He was able to scale so well that not only did he solo kill the enemy jungler, he proved to be a menace for everyone else on HLE as well. HLE’s great early game seemed meaningless against Canyon, and before anyone knew it, the series was tied up at 1-1.
There were a lot of off-meta picks in game 3, as Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon picked mid Tristana, while DK’s bot lane picked Senna-Heimerdinger (Fasting Senna). DK’s unorthodox bot lane proved to be the key point of their victory, as not only did they safely get out of lane, they played key roles in all teamfights. Due to the difference in champion ranges, DK naturally got stronger as time went on, and with Ghost getting his 1000th kill near the end of the game, DK destroyed HLE’s nexus and took the series 2-1.
