Harrisburg University to host third annual Pennsylvania Cup collegiate esports tournament

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will host third annual Pennsylvania Cup featuring collegiate esports teams from across PA competing in Overwatch and League of Legends from February 27-28.  The collegiate esports tournament will take place entirely online this year due to complications and restrictions caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Teams competing in the 2021 PA Cup will be facing off against one another virtually for a more than $3,000 prize pool. Finals competition will be held Sunday, Feb. 28. 

 

Including Harrisburg University's very own HU Storm, the following teams will be competing in the 2021 Pennsyvlania Cup: Pennsylvania College of Technology; Widener University; Montgomery County Community College; Montgomery County Community College; Juniata College; King's College & Saint Francis University. The rest of the colleges competing in the PA Cup have yet to be announced, but will be confirmed on Monday, February 22nd. 

 

Competition registration is open through Feb. 21. Nerd Street Gamers will lead this year’s exciting remote production of the competition which will be broadcast live on Harrisburg University's Twitch channel

 

 

To be eligible to compete in the 2021 Pennsylvania Cup, three requirements must be met. First, the team competing must be a representative of a college or university. Second, the educational establishment backing the team must be located in the state of Pennsylvania. Lastly, all players participating in the 2021 PA Cup must be full-time students for their school to be eligible to compete. All teams that sign up and meet the criteria are guaranteed to compete in the tournament.

 

The Harrisburg University Storm has been commended for its robust and forward-thinking esports program. HU not only focuses on developing talent at the collegiate level, but has employed former professional Overwatch and League of Legends players like Joe "Joemeister" Gramano and Alex "Xpecial" Chu to pivotal coaching positions within the program's infrastructure.
