European Dota 2 team Burjui has been disqualified from the DPC EU Lower Division after admins discovered that the team had provided a forged COVID-19 test result in order to be granted emergency substitute transfer.
According to DreamHack, which operates the DPC Europe division, after Burjui played the maximum of four matches per season with a substitute player, they officially requested to replace one of their players stating "medical reasons". A positive COVID-19 test was presented as proof, which triggered an investigation from DreamHack's side, citing conflicting information. During the investigation, not only did Burjui refuse to provide evidence and information about the emergency transfer request, but the presented COVID-19 test was also found to be fake.
"As a result of this, we have no alternative but to disqualify burjui from the ongoing DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU Lower Division. All of their matches have therefore been voided," DreamHack wrote.
This is the second team in two days to be cut out of the DPC EU Lower Division. On Tuesday, Feb. 16, team Meta4Pro withdrew from the competition, suspecting one of their own players for match-fixing. The remaining six teams in the tournament will proceed, knowing that none of them will be eliminated, although only four have a mathematical shot at climbing up to the $205,000 Upper Division.
