Polish developer CD Project Red confirmed on Twitter Tuesday, Feb. 9, that the company has been hacked and whoever's responsible is holding sensitive information, as well as access to the source code of Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, GWENT, and an unreleased version of Witcher 3. The hackers also claim that they have "dumped all of your documents relating to accounting, administration, legal, HR, investor relations and more!"
The hackers have given CDPR 48 hours to contact them, lest the source codes be sold and documents sent to gaming journalists.
"Your public image will go down the shitter even more and people will see how you shitty company functions. Investors will lose trust in your company and the stock will dive even lower!"
In their official stance, CDPR said they would "not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor" and are taking steps to "mitigate the consequences of such a release". CDPR further states that to their knowledge, no personal data of the players has been accessed.
CDPR has been having rough couple of weeks since Cyberpunk 2077's problematic launch, which included poor performance on last-gen consoles and a bug-ridden world that has become the butt of many jokes and videos online. In mid-December, Sony pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation store and offered full refunds. That didn't stop the game from generating massive revenue for CDPR, however, selling a total of 13 million copies worldwide by Dec. 20, grossing over $609 million in sales as of Dec. 31.
