On day 20 of the 2021 LCK Spring split, DWG KIA faced off against DRX. DWG KIA displayed superiority in their macro and their teamfighting, taking the 2-0 series victory against DRX to stand alone at the top of the standings.

The following is an interview with the mid laner for DWG KIA, Heo “ShowMaker” Su.

DWG KIA is already on a five-match win streak. How do you feel?

I’m very happy that we won right before the Lunar holidays.

Instead of DWG KIA prioritizing Gnar, the team banned him in both games. Was Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon’s Gnar that much of a threatening pick?

I don’t think Gnar’s a bad champion in the meta at the moment, but I noticed that Kingen loves Gnar. We had a spare ban card to utilize, so we banned him out.

Did you feel that things were going to go south when DRX stole Baron in game 2?

No, we didn’t feel like we were going to lose, even with Baron stolen. We just went, ‘Oh, it got stolen? Let’s just get dragon soul’, and focused on the next objective teamfight.

Despite DRX being behind, they’ve proved that they weren’t afraid to take the fight. How do you rate their performance tonight?

It’s really hard for a team with a disadvantage to be proactive around the map. Despite DRX fielding a lot of rookie players, they do an exceptional job in looking for angles, so I think they’re a great team.

Sion is a champion that not many teams utilize. What do you think are his strengths, and how do you rate him in the current meta?

Sion’s a tank, but he’s very oppressive in laning. He has enough CC as well. I don’t think he’s overpowered, so I think he’s B/A tier. Our top laner, Kim “Khan” Dong-ha, does very well on any champion that he plays, so we can always count on him to perform.

What do you think the reason was behind the team’s early slump?

I think that we couldn’t follow the meta properly, and was a phase where we all individually slumped. After losing to Fredit BRION, we changed the direction of our practice, where we focused on raising our individual performances.

How complete would you say the team is at the moment? How much room does the team have for growth?

Right now, we’re at the phase of honing our team synergy. It’s not perfect, but I think that with more practice, we can perfect it.

After the Lunar holidays, DWG KIA’s last opponent of round 1 is kt Rolster.

After the holidays, we’ll make sure to not get complacent, work harder, and to beat kt Rolster.

Lastly, a word to your fans.

The fans’ support is my biggest source of strength. I hope everyone stays safe and enjoy the Lunar holidays.
