On day 15 of the 2021 LCK Spring split, Nongshim RedForce took a 2-0 victory against kt Rolster in the second match of the day, picking up their 3rd match win of the split. The jungler for NS, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, was praised for his performance on Olaf and Kindred in game 1 and 2 respectively.
Peanut joined Inven in a 1 on 1 interview to talk about the match.
Thoughts on the victory?
Our next opponents are T1 and Gen.G, and with today’s victory, I’m glad that we’re able to avoid a loss streak.
After NS lost to Afreeca Freecs in the last match, what was the feedback from the coaching staff?
We started off heavily disadvantageous in game 1, so we talked about everything that made it disadvantageous. In game 2 of that series, not only did we make huge mistakes, our teamfighting was very poor, so we went over the parts where we messed up.
Do you feel like all of what you talked about has been fixed for today’s series against KT?
I think it was more or less the same, so we still have room for improvement. Especially in game 2, where we should’ve snowballed harder after killing Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon’s Azir, but the game was dragged to late game, so things were close.
Was there anything that you prepared just for today’s series?
We thought that if things were slow paced, and ended up scaling, the game was going to be hard, so I tried to gank my lanes and actively skirmish. Thankfully, the enemy played Senna-Tahm Kench bot lane, so it made the game easier.
Currently, a lot of people say that one of NS’ biggest strengths lies in teamfighting. What kind of talk goes on internally?
We talk about how we should not shy away from most fights. However, situationally, if there’s more to gain from avoiding skirmishes, then we avoid them. Yet, there still are a lot of skirmishes because there were a lot of moments where our only win condition was through teamfighting (laughter).
On the flip side, they say that NS’ laning has been subpar.
As a jungler, I try to help my laners as much as I can. Our coaching staff also works day and night to improve our laning phase, but in the end, it all comes down to individual skill level. I believe in my teammates’ abilities.
This Spring, the race is very close, especially in the middle of the standings. Do you believe that NS will be able to climb the standings?
We’ll need to work incredibly hard to climb.
Your next opponents are T1.
Although they made a lot of in-game mistakes in recent days, I still believe that they’re a very good team. Our performances have been inconsistent as well, but it happens to take place on my birthday, so I really want to win.
Lastly, a word to your fans.
We would’ve been in a very tough spot if we lost today, but I’m glad that we broke our loss streak with a 2-0 victory. Recently, fans sent me a lot of gifts to celebrate my 6th anniversary as a pro, so I want to take this opportunity to thank all of them. Please stay safe and healthy.
