DK Ghost: "I expected a long day today, as I knew that we weren’t going to get an easy victory tonight."

On Jan. 27th, day 11 of the 2021 LCK Spring split took place. DWG KIA was able to take down Gen.G in the second match of the day, and with it, they are now in 1st place alongside Hanwha Life Esports in the standings with a 4-1 record.

After the match, Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun joined Inven for a post-match interview to talk about the victory.

How does it feel to take the hard fought victory over Gen.G?

The series was closer than we anticipated in game 1, but I’m happy that our game 3 victory was dominant. It feels even better that we took down Gen.G, because they’re a really good team, and the game’s always hard against them. I don’t think we played too terribly tonight.

Game 1 was a very long one, so I think you’d personally feel bad about yourself getting caught out in the last team fight.

At the time, Gen.G captured a lot of vision over us, so we were at a disadvantage. However, I saw an angle to get a solo kill, so I went in. I was contemplating between Bloodthirster and Guardian’s Angel in my last item purchase, and if I bought GA over BT, I think things would’ve gone a lot differently.

What was the feedback after the loss in game 1?

We were at an advantage in the mid-game, but we grabbed vision in the wrong places, so we wasted a lot of time. Our feedback was focused around it.

Kim “Khan” Dong-ha’s performance in game 2 was incredible.

When we were fighting at the top side of the map, I was just laning against Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk. I think both of us were looking at the skirmish (laughter). When I saw my team win, I became very happy.

Can you tell us the reasoning behind the Seraphine pick?

Son “Lehends” Si-woo plays a lot of Seraphine, and our support, BeryL, asked him if she’s good or not. After some research, he thought it was a good pick, so we decided to bust it out tonight. Seraphine has a lot of strengths. She’s strong during the laning phase, and is very good in team fights as well. I think she’s one of those champions that gets better with the level of mastery.

Xayah was picked against Kai’Sa in all three games.

She’s a champion that’s been buffed quite a lot, and the right environment has been created for her to be picked. I think she’s a great champion right now.

Can you tell us a bit more about the matchup?

I think that Kai’Sa’s stronger in lane, while Xayah’s strengths lie in her CC and her survivability with her ultimate.

Not only was game 1 the longest game of the LCK this split so far, the match itself went full three games. How did you keep composed?

I expected a long day today, as I knew that we weren’t going to get an easy victory tonight. It pretty much panned out the way I expected.

In your last interview, you talked about how every player needs to work on improving their individual performances. What are some of the steps that’s being taken to improve?

In terms of bot lane, we couldn’t properly organize the champion tier list, so we started from there. We also worked on individual performance issues through various means, and in terms of team gameplay, we worked on various parts of our macro. I can definitely say that we’re making progress.

You took down Gen.G today, and your next opponents are against HLE.

I believe that as long as we’re able to elevate our level of performance, we can beat anyone. We’ll work just as hard as we’ve been doing until now, and beat them as a better version of ourselves. Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu seems to be playing well recently, so I’ll need to prepare thoroughly.

Lastly, a word to your fans.

Thank you for always cheering for us. We’ll make sure to beat HLE and stand at the top of the standings.
