After a very rocky launch with complaints about bugs, fps issues, unplayability, and seizures, Sony has temporarily pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store and has announced that it is offering refunds for those who purchased the game through their channels. Cyberpunk 2077 was a highly anticipated game since its announcement in 2018, and it received numerous delays until its eventual release in mid-December 2020.

In an official announcement on their site, Sony stated:

"SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store.  SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice."

You can sign in with your PlayStation profile on their site to begin the refund process.

Earlier this week, Cyberpunk developers offered to issue refunds for those who wanted them, but they requested that players be patient and keep the game, announcing small updates coming in the coming weeks followed by larger patches over the next few months. However, that statement wasn't cleared by Sony, nor Microsoft, presenting further issues, with both console companies declining to refund. Sony has since decided to offer refunds, however, though Microsoft has yet to provide their own update.

CD Projekt Red issued this apology on December 14, "We would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One."

In a company conference call with investors, board member and CFO, Piotr Nielubowicz, stated "As far as the players' feedback is concerned, the feedback for PC is by far better than what we get on consoles."

Cyberpunk 2077 had allowed reviewers to access the game before its official release, but only gave reviews for the PC version of the game, not giving out any access to the PS4 or Xbox One versions. While there are bugs and issues across all consoles, the PS4 and Xbox versions are the platforms with very clear issues, prompting this action from Sony.

CD Projekt Red has not provided any further statement, and as of the publishing of this article, they are still only accepting full refunds through December 21st. Stay tuned for further updates from CD Projekt Red, Sony, and Microsoft.
