With December comes The Game Awards, showcasing some of the best talent and best games from throughout the months before. The Game Awards mimic other awards shows, like the Oscars or Golden Globes, handing out awards for a variety of categories, both for creators and the games themselves. Among the awards are specific categories, like the best multiplayer game, to more broad ones, like the best streamer/content creator. 

The show lasted several hours, mixing in game announcements and previews along with their various awards, including multiple big news drops, like the next Smash Bros character, Riot Forge's upcoming game, and Halo coming to Fortnite. 

Some of the highlights of the show were their bigger, all-encompassing awards, like Content Creator of the year, which went to 100 Thieves' Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter. Valkyrae has over a million followers on Twitter and nearly 2.5 million on YouTube. 

In a similar category, League of Legends pro player, Heo "ShowMaker" Su, won Best Esports Athlete of the year. He and his team, DAMWON Gaming, won Worlds 2020, the premier League of Legends esports competition. It also happened to be that Riot Games' League of Legends and Worlds won Best Esports Game and Best Esports Event of the year too, respectively. Furthermore, Eefje "Sjokz" Depoortere won Best Esports Host, working largely in the League scene, and G2 Esports won Best Esports Team, with their League of Legends squad taking both Spring and Summer split titles in the LEC, and making it to the Worlds semifinals.

Other big award winners were Among Us, which won both Best Multiplayer Game and Best Mobile Game along with the upcoming map they revealed on the show, Hades, which won both Best Action Game and Indie Game of the year, and The Last of Us Part II, which won Game of the Year and a smattering of other awards.
