The following was sent to Inven Global as press release.
This Saturday and Sunday, leading collegiate gaming organizations from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), University of California, Irvine (UCI), and University of Southern California (USC) are hosting the “SoCal Fall Festival,” a digital, two-day collaborative event featuring gaming tournaments, panels, an artists’ alley, casual events, and giveaways. The event is to be hosted on a dedicated Discord server, which as of this press release, has over 1,800 unique attendees on the platform.
The collegiate gaming organizations of UCLA, UCSB, UCI, and USC involved in the creation of this event are Bruin Gaming, Gaucho Gaming, The Association of Gamers at UCI (TAG), and Summoner School, respectively. “SoCal Fall Festival” was created after the success of the initial“UCLA x UCSB Summer Splash” that took place over the summer season, and intends to create an even larger community and place for gamers of all backgrounds to meet each other and socialize. Although “SoCal Fall Festival” is hosted by these four universities, interested participants outside of these schools are also encouraged to attend the event.“
The overall goal for the SoCal Fall Festival is to let people connect during a time where, really, having that connection physically is impossible due to quarantine,” states Lauren “Tamagu”
Chen, president of Bruin Gaming in a talk show hosted by Counter Logic Gaming (CLG), one of the sponsors for the event.
Popular games featured in the competitive tournaments are Riot Games’ “League of Legends,” “Valorant,” and “Teamfight Tactics,” Nintendo’s “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate,” “Super SmashBros. Melee,” and “Mario Kart,” as well as “TEKKEN 7,” “osu!,” and “Pokémon Showdown.”Prizing of these tournaments consist of gift cards, keyboards, and mice, and are presented by LG, Micro-Star International (MSI), Cooler Master, and other companies and organizations. The tournaments will be hosted throughout the weekend and will be live streamed on the BruinGaming, Gaucho Gaming, and TAG Twitch channels.
In addition, the staff of “SoCal Fall Festival” will be hosting three educational panels aimed to guide its viewers through careers in esports. “A lot of panels done in the collegiate space are very repetitive,” states Francisco “Atomicfreeze” Rodriguez, UCSB alumni and current Campaign Manager Intern at Streamworks.gg. He explains the monotony in themes led him to create panels that touch on more serious topics, such as whether working in esports is “worth it,” and whether workers in the esports industry are “overworked” and “underpaid.”
The artists’ alley features artistic talent across the four schools as well as visitors from other colleges, giving artists the opportunity to showcase their works and socialize with other students in the community. In addition, artists gain entry to an exclusive, live-streamed skribbl.io game on Saturday, where the highest placers win prizes from “SoCal Fall Festival” sponsors.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can also participate in casual events such as “kahoot!,” “skribbl.io,” “ Anime Music Quiz,” watch parties, and giveaways. There will be numerous things to do during “SoCal Fall Festival,” whether it be playing games, watching streams, or simply chatting with the gaming community the event has gathered. The “SoCal Fall Festival” Discord server is open to all to join and participate, but the initial cut-off for competitive tournament registration is Friday, November 6 at 11:59 p.m PST.
