Riot Games has announced the 2020 All-Star Event to end this year's League of Legends esports season. Due to the casual nature of ASE and the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will take place completely online and feature a new format.

ASE 2020's format will be divided into two stages: Underdog Uprising and Superstar Showdown. Underdog Uprising will take place on Friday, December 18th at the beginning of the event. Underdog Uprising will feature four matches where a combination of players from two minor league regions will face off against a combination of players from a major region. As with previous iterations of the All-Star Event, players will be voted in by fans.

Superstar Showdown will take place for the remainder of the event through Sunday, December 20th. Each of the four major regions will be represented by three teams: Queue Kings will consist of five of the top influencers from each region, Legends will be a team of established veterans who formerly played professionally, and the All-Stars will be the teams that represented the four major regions in Underdog Uprising.

The format for each day of Superstar Showdown will feature a best-of-1 match between Queue Kings and Legends of two regions followed by a best-of-3 match between the All-Stars of those regions. Saturday will feature League of Legends Champions Korea versus China's League of Legends Pro League, and Sunday will bring another iteration of NA vs. EU when the League of Legends Championship Series faces off against the League of Legends European Championship.

In addition to having to combat cross-regional ping in certain instances, the All-Stars of the four major regions will also have some other twists to contend with during the match. Riot Games was vague in its announcement of exactly what these twists will be and how they will affect the competition. As with previous years, Red Bull will be hosting a 1v1 competition throughout the event in each region that will be peppered into each day of the broadcast.

As per usual, ASE 2020 will have a charity initiative, but this year, a new skin will also be a part of the donated proceeds. Elderwood Ornn will be available in the Riot Games shop starting on December 16th for 1350 RP and 100% of the proceeds will be put towards The Riot Games Social Impact Fund at ImpactAssets. Players can cast their votes for one player per position in each region starting November 9th and through November 16th.
