DAMWON Gaming swept DRX in the quarterfinals of the 2020 LoL World Championship. Like the 2020 LCK Summer Split finals, DAMWON Gaming had no trouble in defeating DRX. In the match, top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon had an excellent performance, helping his team advance to the next round. He joined Jeesun Park for a post-match interview on the LCK broadcast.

It was a rematch of the LCK Summer finals at Worlds. You’re on an 8-game winning streak against DRX since the Summer split. How do you feel about today’s win?

I’m happy that we won quickly with a 3-0 score in the quarterfinals.

You've shown explosive gameplay tonight. Rumor says that you’re doing extremely well against all teams in scrims. Is it true? How are you adapting to China?

[Laughs] I think the rumor’s false. We’re not that good in scrims. The food here’s alright, we eat Chinese food at the hotel, but the delivery is really good too. We’re having Korean food and chicken… We’re adapting well.

DRX drafted top oriented champions. What was the game plan against DRX?

We drafted a teamfight heavy composition, so before the top laner could split-push, we wanted to just run them over. We talked about how we should bait the enemy into skirmishing before the enemy could manage side lanes.

While DRX looked as if they had the lead early on, DWG managed to keep coming back to take the lead back. How did you stay focused, and how did the team play out from a deficit?

Since we were playing teamfighting compositions, we had weak early-game compositions. Even still, our coaching staff heavily insisted that we needed to properly answer DRX's early aggression/lead. We matched them, and the game played out well.

There were many instances where the team seemed to play out the game very well, despite things seeming very dangerous. What’s the team’s secret behind staying level-headed in such a big game?

I think our level-headedness comes from our experience. Tonight, BeryL’s in-game calls and playmaking was top notch. He played a huge role in our victory tonight.

Do you think DWG will be playing against Gen.G in the semifinals?

Both G2 Esports and Gen.G seem scary. Whichever team we end up facing, we’re going to have to prepare well, and execute the things that we do well as a team.

Lastly, resolutions for the semis?

We got knocked out in the quarterfinals last year, but we made it to semis this year. We’ll work hard to make it further into the tournament.
