Riot Games has fined Danish team organization Astralis for several rules violations, including being "late on multiple payments towards their Team Members" and "conduct unbecoming of an LEC Team Manager". Astralis, which rebranded from Origen earlier this year to consolidate its esports ventures under one hat, is yet to even play one LEC match as the org is to officially debut in the 2021 Spring Split.
According to Riot, it was Astralis' own team members who reached out to report the missing salaries as well as the poor behavior from the interim GM, including lying about certain contract terms. In its report, Riot states that the missing payments were "tied to the specifics of the Danish jurisdiction and human error" and has since been paid out. Astralis has also been fined €5,000 for its mistakes.
Origen officially rebranded to Astralis this September as part of the unification within the Danish org, and made several major structuring changes, including the stepping back of former GM Martin "Deficio" Lynge and Origen founder Enrique "xPeke" Cedeño, the latter of whom will remain a shareholder in Astralis. As a brand, Origen struggled to establish itself in the modern-day League of Legends climate, despite carrying a large fanbase from the more active days of xPeke. At the same time, Astralis is one of the largest names in CS:GO and it makes sense for the org to try and extend its presence in League of Legends as well with the red star on its jerseys instead of the Origen logo.
Astralis has not committed to a roster for 2021 Spring, and the current five of Origen are still contracted. In terms of management staff, Baltat "AoD" Alin-Ciprian will act as head coach, Bjørn-Vegar "iHansen" as assistant coach, and Flora "Arailla" Parmentier as an analyst. Former Origen head coach Andre "Guilhoto" Guilhoto will also stay with the org in a yet unconfirmed role.
Current Astralis roster:
- Barney "Alphari" Morris (top)
- Andrei "Xerxe" Dragomir (jungle)
- Erlend "Nukeduck" Holm (mid)
- Elias "Upset" Lipp (bot)
- Jakib "Jactroll" Skurzyński (support)
