It took Top Esports and DRX figurative ages to score a kill on each other, as the two teams met to decide which of them will take #1 seed in Group D of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship. With both teams at 4-1, this game meant a lot: the winner would get the opportunity to dodge the incredibly dominant #1 seeds from the other groups, among which are DAMWON Gaming, Suning, and Gen.G.

Careful, TES and DRX engaged in a chess-like macro game, cautious of giving away any serious blows, like lose a player, or even a tower. As the game progressed more, the kill scoreboard remained empty and just like that, an interesting statistic was fed into casters' years: that of the slowest first blood in Worlds history.

Before TES and DRX's match, that record was at 23:38 — game 1 of the 2017 grand finals between SK Telecom T1 and Samsung Galaxy — and it was very likely that TES and DRX would beat it. As a kerfuffle broke out at the 23:30 min mark, it almost fell short, but DRX escaped unscathed, and the clock struck 23:39, the score still 0-0.

And so, the "if" question got replaced by a "when": when will one of TES and DRX kill the other one. Would it be at the first Baron? First inhibitor? The nexus? Turns out, it'd only be 30 seconds later. At 24:05, TES and DRX set the new record for slowest first blood in Worlds history

At the middle tier 1 turret, TES found one Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon out of position with his Galio, and DRX has to give away everything to save him. The mid laner got away safely, but when DRX regrouped to try and save their turret without much of their arsenal, it came to their demise. A shockwave from Zhuo "knight" Ding caught three people, and TES got on the board 3-0. This first teamfight was also what opened wide the game and enabled the LPL's #1 seed to spring ahead. At 38:38, TES won the top seed in Group B with 8-3 in kills.

TES will now go into knockouts having dropped just one game — an upset loss to LCS #2 seed FlyQuest — while remaining one of the favorites to win Worlds 2020 alongside LCK champions DAMWON Gaming and LPL's runner-ups JD Gaming.
