Cloud9 has parted ways with Bok "Reapered" Han-gyu following the conclusion of its League of Legends esports  2020 season. Reapered was the Head Coach of C9's League of Legends Championship Series team since the 2016 NA LCS Summer Split, and through four and a half years won the most Coach of the Split awards in the history of the LCS. 

C9 failed to secure a title in Reapered's first three years as Head Coach, but always managed to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship and, despite oftentimes being the #3 seed from North America, would outperform the other two LCS representatives internationally. C9 won its first title with Reapered at the helm in dominant fashion in the 2020 LCS Spring Split, but a shocking summer collapse saw the team eliminated from Worlds contention for the first time in history.

While 2020 is the first time C9 has missed Worlds, it's hard to say that his parting of ways with the team is entirely performance-based. Not only is the C9 starting roster sticking together for 2021, but Reapered has yet to complete his mandatory military service as a male citizen of South Korea. 

Regardless of what led to the decision being made, it's hard to consider Reapered's time as the Head Coach of Cloud9 anything but a success. Reapered held the same position within the same organization for four-and-a-half years in a domestic league known for staff turnover, and the team's international results constantly made up for any domestic shortcomings.

At Worlds 2018, Cloud9 beat all odds to escape from Group B alongside Fnatic and surprisingly ahead of Royal Never Give Up and Team Vitality. Against #2 seed from South Korea Afreeca Freecs in quarterfinals, C9 became the first NA team to beat a KR team in a best-of-five and swept AF for North America's first Semifinals finish in Worlds history. 

C9's 2020 may have ended in disappointment, but under Reapered's guidance, the squad managed to qualify for four consecutive World Championships and this year's spring LCS title to boot. Throughout his tenure, Reapered was awarded Coach of the Split three times in 2018, 2019, and 2020. 

UPDATE 9/15: Reapered has announced via Twitter that he is looking for offers in any region for Head Coach opportunities, but is also open to more business-centric opportunities within esports organizations.
