On September 8, T1 and Afreeca Freecs faced each other in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Regional Qualifiers for the 2020 World Championship. Just recently, Afreeca Freecs had defeated T1 in the 2020 LCK Summer Split wild card match but today, T1 was able to get revenge with a 3-1 victory.

T1 surprised everyone by starting jungler Choi "Ellim" El-lim and bot laner Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyeong in this game. T1 started well through the lane priority in bot lane, taking first blood and the first dragon, while Kim "Canna" Chang-dong's Renekton was dominating his opponent in the top lane. Afreeca Freecs struck back at the first Rift Herald fight, but that was all Afreeca Freecs could do. The lane priority in the top and bot lanes that T1 had was enough to snowball. After T1 scored an Ace at a dragon fight, the snowball turned into an avalanche and the avalanche devoured Afreeca Freecs. T1 took the lead 1-0.

Game 2 was full of ups and downs for both teams. It started with a solo kill from Afreeca Freecs as Kim "Kiin" Gi-in's Lucian slew Canna's Renekton. T1 came back with Lee "Effort" Sang-ho's Pantheon, who solo killed Jin "Mystic" Seong-jun's Kalista in the jungle, collected another in the mid lane, and T1 gained priority. However, T1 made several mistakes leading to the late game. In a fight around Baron, T1 lost a 5v3 teamfight which was punished severely. Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok's Zoe tried to make changes through precisive skillshots, but it wasn't enough. T1 wasn't able to stop Afreeca Freecs barging in with Taric's ultimate around them. Afreeca Freecs was able to tie the game 1-1.

T1 started off with a well-planned dive in game 3. With a 3-man dive, T1 picked off both bot laners while Canna's Renekton stopped Shen's Teleport from the top lane. With an additional kill in the jungle, T1 went ahead. They continued to widen the difference by benefitting in the mid and bot lanes, taking the first turret. From that point on, T1 kept the lead, stacking more benefits every fight. They were able to destroy Afreeca Freecs' Nexus after securing the Ocean dragon's soul, taking the series to match point.

Game 4 started off quite even. Afreeca Freecs collected more kills but T1 had more objectives and the global gold difference wasn't that far apart in the early game. The game started to tilt towards T1 when Faker survived a 1v2 situation and picked off his opponents. Afterward, the map was lit up with T1's wards and Afreeca Freecs was barely able to come out of their base. As T1 scored an Ace with Canna's Mordekaiser collecting a quadrakill, they ended the game.

Through the win, T1 advanced to the finals of the Regional Qualifiers, where they will face Gen.G. The winner will advance to the Worlds 2020 group stage as LCK's third seed.
