2020 LCK Summer split switches to online format, due to increased number of COVID-19 cases in South Korea

On the 20th (KST), Riot Korea announced that the LCK will, once again, be switching back to the online format. This is due to because the government-wide social distancing level has been increased by the The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, as the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases have dramatically spiked in the metropolitan areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

 

On their official Facebook page, Riot Korea stated that starting on the 21st (KST), all matches, including the 2020 LCK Summer split finals and even the LCK Regional Finals (which determines the third LCK team for the LoL World Championship) will all be held in an online format. They further commented, “While the original plans for the 2020 LCK Summer finals was to create a special stage for viewing entertainment, the social distancing level of the area of the finals venue, Incheon, has been raised. Due to such, the decision was made to also switch the format of the finals to online.”
