After failing to qualify for League Championship Series playoffs in both the Spring and Summer Splits, CLG has parted ways with both of their coaches, Kim "SSONG" Sang-soo and Weldon "Weldon" Green. The team placed last in spring and ninth in summer, and their combined wins set a record low for the LCS.
The team was set to make it to the post-season this summer, going into Week 9 of the LCS in a playoff position at 8th place and one game ahead of both Immortals and Dignitas. However, the team lost both of their regular-season games and then a tiebreaker to Dignitas, going 0-3 on the weekend and losing their playoff spot. Before the weekend, CLG replaced their starting Jungler and Mid Laner, Raymond "Wiggily" Griffin and Eugene "Pobelter" Park, with Academy players, Kristopher "Fragas" Myhal and Jean-Sébastien "Tuesday" Thery. Pobelter returned for the tiebreaker match, but Fragas played all three games.
On the first day of the off-season, CLG released coaches SSONG and Weldon, who are now free to work - and who are actively looking for work - with other teams through the post-season. While they clearly struggled this year on CLG, both coaches have a storied history with plenty of post-season and international experience and could be valuable additions to teams looking for extra support staff moving into the playoffs.
