On the 8th (KST), DRX shut out SANDBOX Gaming 2-0 in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split. Through this win, they became the first team to collect 13 wins this season. Mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon had outstanding performances on Azir and Sylas. He joined Inven Global for an interview after the match.
How do you feel about today’s win?
We needed to win all the remaining matches to maintain a high rank, so it’s a relief that we won. I feel pretty good.
How’s Deft’s back?
I think it came to me. [Laughs] I’ve been playing solo queue until late recently. If I go with the regular schedule, it’s alright, but if I play about an hour or two past bedtime, my back hurts.
Do you do any exercise for it?
I don’t do any exercise dedicated to my back, but I do some workouts that I can do in regular life.
Whenever DRX wins, the camera goes to Pyosik, looking forward to a new winning ceremony. Are you planning to do one sometime?
Pyosik has been doing that instead of the rest of us. We should use him as much as we can. I don’t think I’ll ever do one. [Laughs]
You had a big loss against DAMWON Gaming. I don’t remember you having such a big loss in your career. How do you overcome such losses?
It’s not that different from any other losses. I just think that I should do better next time. I get over losses pretty easily. If there’s something to fix, I just fix that and get over it.
How was the feedback after the loss?
Most of the feedback was about the draft. There was also feedback about me not buying Doran’s Shield. It didn’t take long; the reasons we lost were quite simple, so we discussed them and moved on.
You can’t end in 1st place on your own anymore. It feels that you wouldn’t want to go to the Regional Qualifiers this year.
I don’t look that much ahead when I play. The results come after I do well in my next match, so I don’t think about it. If I don’t play well and have to go to Regionals, I just have to accept it. If I don’t, that’s another situation I should do my best in, so I think it’s too early to worry about that. It’s important to keep focused on every single match.
Clozer is doing well since his debut in T1. In his interviews, he always picks Chovy as the mid laner he’s the most aware of. What do you think?
Obviously, I feel good. As much as he said that he’s aware of me, I’d like to do well to exceed his expectations.
He said that he faced you often in solo queue. What kind of a player do you think he is?
Clozer attempts trades often and it seems that his ability to pounce on a chance to kill is outstanding.
As you said, Clozer expresses himself as a "very aggressive mid laner". What would you express yourself as?
I would say that I’m a chameleon mid laner. I put on a different color suitable for every situation.
Fly also said that he’s jealous of you. What do you think of getting all this attention from other players?
There’s some luck involved in me getting this much attention, so I think I need to play better to keep up to all the expectations. I do feel proud that I put in enough effort to catch those chances. I’m very grateful to those players that see me that way.
You’ve become a lot more eloquent in your interviews. Do you remember your first interview with caster Sung?
[Laughs] That was the first time I’ve been put in such a situation. All that attention, talking in public. It was so much pressure so all I thought was not to say anything that could get myself in trouble. Now, I have better judgment so I can speak more freely.
It’s nearing the end of the season now. Up to your last match against T1, you’ll be facing lower-ranked teams. How do you plan to face them?
If we slip in any of those matches, we’ll have a hard time and would have to play difficult matches. I’ll be doing my best until the end.
To the fans?
Thank you for always watching and cheering for us. It’s like I say this all the time, but I really mean it. Thank you.
