In the quarterly earnings call held Monday, Activision Blizzard reported that Q2 2020 exceeded expectations in terms of revenue and Earnings Per Share (EPS). The total consolidated net revenues for the quarter saw a 38% increase compared to last year, reaching $1.9 billion, compared to the $1.4 billion of Q2 2019.

According to the published, the Call of Duty franchise was the main revenue engine for this quarter, with interest towards Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile being very high. Activision Blizzard states that Warzone has reached "over 75 million players to date" and that in "the first full quarter since Warzone launched, hours played in the Modern Warfare universe increased eight-fold year-over-year, driven by both existing and new players." According to stats portal TwitchTracker, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the fifth most popular game on Twitch and the highest Activision Blizzard title on the list. The second highest, World of Warcraft is at #11, followed by Hearthstone at #12.

In contrast, the Blizzard vertical of the publisher could not boast with comparable figures. Reportedly, Blizzard only had 32M monthly active users (MAUs), four times lower than Activision's 125M MAU.

While the revenue increases are welcomed news for Activision Blizzard executives, they will certainly add more fuel to the fire of the company's employees gathering to demand fair pay, wage increase, and vacation time. Bloomberg reports that almost 900 Activision Blizzard workers have organized themselves in the company's Slack channel, preparing to bring a list of demands to higher-ups, after a recently-shared spreadsheet revealed major wage discrepancy and insufficient pay raise within the game developer.

In the call, Blizzard CEO also confirmed that an online edition of Blizzcon is being planned for early 2021. This confirms earlier commitments by Blizzard, who had to cancel their annual convention over the spreading COVID-19 pandemic.

"So you mentioned BlizzCon, and we did announce that we will not be bringing the community together this fall, but we are planning on channeling the spirit of BlizzCon into a virtual event early -- in early part of next year. We're really fortunate to have a passionate and engaged community that's really looking forward to what we're creating and what we're working on," Brack said.
