It's been almost a month since Guy "DrDiscrespect" Beahm since the popular streamer has been reportedly perma-banned on Twitch.tv — the largest game streaming platform in the world. And for all the speculations, theories, and allegations, the Doc still doesn't know the reason.
“Honestly, we just don’t know. It was a total shock," DrDisrespect told The Washington Post. "Imagine showing up to work and the doors are closed and you can’t get inside. You’re going, ‘What’s going on?’ And you’ve been told you’ve been fired. But you haven’t been told the reason why. We just weren’t given an answer. … It was the worst feeling.”
DrDisrespect's Twitch channel was banned on June 26, 2020, but so far, the platform hasn't provided any specific reason why that has happened. On the day, Twitch's official response, per Shannon Liao of CNN Business, was that their process is to "take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”
Twitch's statement, vague as it was, threw the community into wild speculations. The ban came during a surging #MeToo movement in the game space, which was also an issue Twitch specifically focused on, so for many theorists, the connection was as simple as adding two and two. When Discord also joined Twitch in their removal of DrDisrespect from their partnership program, the speculations intensified even more. So far, there's zero tangible proof what Beahm did to deserve the ban.
While this might be a permanent end to DrDirespect partnership with Twitch, the streamer has good options still, and the more obvious one right now is transition to YouTube. Beahm already boasts close to 1.7M followers there, with his videos getting views well in the six figures. With the recent shut down of Mixer and with other top streamers such as Tyler "Ninja" Blevins eyeballing Google's platform, this could end up the move for the Doc as well.
“We worked really hard to get to this point, and all of a sudden it’s just like everything’s kind of halted,” Beahm told The Post. “But, you know, I’m surrounded by a good team. And we’re putting together a nice little game plan. I’m really excited to take things to the next level.”
