Thanks to a global lockdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the desire to go outside and explore has never been higher. And what started with Animal Crossing - allowing people to spend time "together" with their real life friends and perform chores and play outside - will be followed up by the return of the 1999 classic, Pokémon Snap, where you'll become a roller coaster riding adventurer with a camera and a barrel of apples filling in your very own Pokémon Photodex.

There has been no release date announced so far, but Pokémon Snap is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. The game's original release was on the Nintendo 64, and therefore, had somewhat limited functionality and depth. The upcoming release for the Switch, however, will be a "completely new product" based on the original, but offering much more adventure to  "investigate the ecology of various Pokémon ."

The original Pokémon Snap had two re-releases before, one in 2007 for the Wii, and then another in 2016 for the Wii U, but this will be the first new version of the game since the original. It will expand on the classic, and seems to feature a main goal other than just "collect photos for research," adding a little more depth and purpose to fit in more with today's games' standards.  This isn't the only new Pokémon game announced either, with Pokémon Cafe releasing next week on June 23rd, featuring a staff of cute and charming Pokémon to help solve puzzles and run a cafe.

Nintendo will be releasing more information on the upcoming game, so stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, get ready to explore an all new island full of wild Pokémon, and get ready to throw your apples and play the flute, charming the little monsters for the perfect snap. Other than the release date, the only other question is, "Will there be a surfing Pikachu?"
