LCS/LEC Summer Split Week 1: Pick & Avoid

The two most important questions when building your E1 Fantasy Lineup: Who do I pick? Who do I not pick? Well we heard you mumbling these questions to yourself and are giving you some help.

Who to avoid is just as important as to who you flock towards as you need to make sure your whole lineup is set to pop-off, from Top to Team. We are giving you one player/team from each position to target and another one to run as far away from as you possibly can. Choose wisely!

Top

PICK:   Finn "Finn" Wiestål — Rogue — $260,000 (vs Excel Esports & Misfits)

We know Finn can straight up ball. We saw him be Top 3 at the position in 2019 even though he couldn’t repeat it last Spring. But what if I told you his in-lane matchups this week featured a player making his LEC debut, XL's Felix “Kryze” Hellström, and got a rematch against the weak link of Misfits that Finn put up a combined 11/3/17 line on in the 3 playoff wins? Now we talking.

AVOID:   Janik "Jenax" Bartels — SK Gaming — $230,000 (vs Origen & FC Schalke 04)

Personally, I am very excited about the shift from the Mid lane to the Top Lane. I would love to see the big-play tendencies that helped Jenax average the 2nd most Fantasy Points per game in ‘19 Summer come from the top lane, a position desperate for points. Even though I think it can come, I don’t expect to see those flashes in Week 1 as I see Jenax initially trying to overcorrect his playstyle to fit the new position.

Jungle

PICK:    Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski — G2 Esports — $360,000 (vs MAD Lions & Origen)

Jankos is honestly the Fantasy MVP. Even if he isn’t the highest-scoring player overall, the points he gives you from a non-Mid/Bot position is just incredibly valuable. His price reflects that, but if you can afford him, scoop him up real quick.

AVOID:   William "Meteos" Hartman  100 Thieves  $250,000 (vs Evil Geniuses & Cloud9)

It doesn’t get much rougher than this start for 100 Thieves. Meteos was a fantasy darling last year, ending the split 2nd only to C9's Robert "Blaber" Huang in Assists in the LCS. I’m not denying that he can repeat that feat, but he won’t be getting a great first step towards it taking on two of the top three teams in the LCS.

Mid

PICK:    Rasmus "Caps" Winther — G2 Esports —  $380,000 (vs. MAD Lions & Origen)

I mean… come on, its Caps. The only thing that can prevent him from being the top scoring player on the week is if his teammate Luka "Perkz" Perković killsteals and leaves Caps with Assists. I imagine we are going to see Caps show off in his back-to-mid debut, making his owners very very happy.

AVOID:   Erlend "Nukeduck" Holm — Origen — $270,000 (vs SK Gaming & G2 Esports)

For those who aren’t familiar with the Nukeduck conundrum of Spring ‘19, you missed out on the starting Mid for a Top 3 LEC team continually failing to live up to expectations. You would think that the 2nd highest scoring position on a ~3rd place team would just get tons of points by default. However, that was not the case in the Spring Regular Season as he was outside the top 7 in Kills at his position.

Bot

PICK:    Bae "Bang" Jun-sik — Evil Geniuses —  $280,000 (vs 100 Thieves & Counter Logic Gaming)

Bang is very good. He finished with the 2nd best KDA in the LCS, only behind Zven, and finished with the 4th most Kills in the LCS. 100 Thieves may have been the higher seed in Spring, but I’m calling an easy 2-0 week for EG here and see Bang leading the charge.

AVOID:   Jason "WildTurtle" Tran — FlyQuest — $250,000 (vs. Cloud9 & Immortals)

In Spring, WildTurtle was by far the worst carry player to ever carry. On a weekly basis, Turtle would be outscored by 3 players on his own team! Your Bot should give you the hope to top all players in a week, not make your worry about whether he leads his own team.

Support

PICK:     Choi "huhi" Jae-hyun — Golden Guardians — $100,000 (vs DIG & TL)

GG’s converted Support experiment did not start well in Spring. However, Huhi has already proved that he is an improvement on Keith in the position. Additionally, Victor "FBI" Huang has shown that he can more than hold his own in Bot. Buying FBI's lane partner in two winnable matches for just $100k is one amazing deal.

AVOID:    Jo "CoreJJ" Yong-in — Team Liquid — $150,000 (vs TSM & Golden Guardians)

Getting the CoreJJ name value outside of the Top 10 in price at the position can be very tempting, but you must resist. An investment in CoreJJ is an investment in new AD Carry Edward "Tactical" Ra having strong showings against two Spring playoff teams, one of which featuring a guy named Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng who may be playing pretty motivated to beat TL.

Team

PICK:    TSM —  $280,000 (vs Team Liquid & Dignitas)

Remember that 13-0 start record that C9 failed to beat in the last split? Yeah, that record was set by TSM the last time Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg Bjergsen, Doublelift and Vincent "Biofrost" Wang were all on the same team. This team won’t even come close to that record this split, but they can beat two teams that both missed Spring Playoffs in TL and DIG.

AVOID:     Origen — $270,000 (vs SK Gaming & G2 Esports)

Even though they are clearly a Top 3/4 LEC team, there are a couple of things working against Origen that scare me away from them. First, I don’t expect them to beat G2 this week, which I don’t want to pay $270k unless I’m getting a 2-0 week. Also, OG has never been an objective based team, so their games don’t translate to extra Team points even when they do win. For that reason, I am out.
