Cloud9 has signed Frank "Tomo" Lam to the AD Carry position for the Cloud9 Academy roster. Tomo will start for the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Academy League Spring champion in place of Calvin 'K1ng' Truong while K1ng is in his home country of Australia for visa purposes.

Tomo put himself on the map at the 2019 NA Scouting Grounds by showing a mastery of conventional AD Carry picks, as well as some of the newer compositional flavors of Syndra, Heimerdinger, and Yasuo.

Tomo was drafted by Evil Geniuses as the 5th pick overall after EG purchased the selection from fellow returning LCS organization Immortals, but negotiations did not lead to an agreement between both parties. One month later, Tomo was signed by Harrisburg University to start in the AD Carry position for the HU Storm, one of the most decorated collegiate esports programs in the country.

Starting for C9 Academy will be the biggest opportunity of Tomo's career thus far, but that comes with some heavy expectations. C9 Academy started the season by going 2-4 in its first six games, but then went on a tear and won its last 12 games in a row to finish the 2020 LCS Academy League Spring Split in 1st place. C9 Academy only dropped one game in the Spring Playoffs, defeating TSM Academy 3-1 in the Semifinals before sweeping Evil Geniuses Academy in the Finals.

Tomo's future on the roster upon K1ng's return is currently unknown, but any amount of time on the roster should serve him well regardless of his specific future with C9. David "Diamond" Bérubé is arguably the best Support in the LCS Academy League, and the veteran presence of Jungler Rami "Inori" Charagh should give Tomo some insights into what it's like to play in the LCS.

The 2020 LCS Academy League Summer Split begins on Friday, June 12. No details regarding the specific matchups on opening day have been released, but expect to see Tomo in the lineup for Cloud9 Academy come summer.
