The 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split will kick off on June 13, 2020. The news was made public by Riot Games on Monday, April 27 via the official LoL Esports website. Due to the global pandemic caused by the outbreak of COVID-19, the 2020 LCS Summer Split will be played online until it is deemed safe by state officials to gather at the LCS studios in Los Angeles, CA. 

The 2020 LCS Spring Split saw Cloud9 dominate the competition to the tune of a 17-1 record. C9 only dropped one game in the entirety of the 2020 LCS Spring Playoffs on its way to its first domestic title in six years. Transitioning online midway through the spring didn't pose a challenge to Cloud9 whatsoever. In his first split as a full-time LCS starter, Jungler Robert "Blaber" Huang took home the Honda Most Valuable Player award.

For the first time since its inception in 2015, the Mid-Season Invitational has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, all domestic leagues will be going straight into the next split. 

The 2020 LCS Summer Split kicks off on June 13, and the LCS Academy League Summer Split will begin on June 12. Reigning LCS champions Cloud9 will face off against FlyQuest in a rematch of the Spring Finals earlier this month.  C9 also won the Academy League in a convincing win over Evil Geniuses Academy, but details on the first matchups for summer have yet to be revealed.

The LCS will stick with the same schedule used in spring after the competition moved online. Four matches will take place on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with the last two being played on Monday night. Weekend broadcasts will start at 1:00pm PT, and Monday LCS broadcasts will start at 5:00pm PT.
