The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) will return this Summer, on Friday, June 12. With the cancellation of the 2020 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), this Summer Split is set to start with a week’s delay from the previous year.

The LEC will feature a change to its usual schedule. On Week 1 and Week 8, the championship will have “superweeks”, in which games will be played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Two one-week breaks will be included, one after the first round robin is concluded, between Week 4 and Week 5, and one after the end of the regular season and before entering playoffs, between Week 8 and Week 9. These measures were put in place to ensure the teams and broadcasters have space in their schedule shall they need to pivot due to unforeseen circumstances.

With the change in this Split’s schedule, Summer Finals are set to be held on September 5 and 6, but as of right now, we do not have confirmation of where it will be played. Riot Games has stated in a blog post that:

“Currently, we have yet to determine when and how we will be able to safely bring LEC play back into our studio in Berlin - including when we can welcome back a studio audience. For the Finals, we haven’t made the call to cancel our plan to bring the LEC to Malmö, Sweden, however we have started working on backup scenarios in the event we need to pivot away from a large-scale live event like we did with the Spring Finals.”

The LEC is not the only championship to suffer schedule changes. The EU Masters Finals have been set to take place on September 19 and 20, with the Summer Split schedule remaining in consideration.
