DRX cvMax: "Deft is a very warm-hearted person and has incredible leadership... There’s a lot that I need to learn from Deft."

On the 10th (KST), DragonX defeated DAMWON Gaming 2-1 in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split. It was a very close match as in the last game, DragonX nearly conceded their Nexus. However, DragonX turned the game around by killing all five DAMWON Gaming players, with a sliver of HP left on their Nexus. After the match, DragonX head coach Kim "cvMax" Dae-ho joined Inven Global for an interview.

Congratulations. How do you feel about the win?

I’m very very happy that we won.

DragonX turned around the game at the very last moment. How was it watching them play?

I sincerely thought that I hope we win. There wasn’t anything more that I could do. Whatever happened was god’s will. Rather than the end, the macro during the early-mid game was a bit off. I gave feedback regarding those parts.

If there’s a highlight such as the last moment, fans usually consider it extremely fun or an exciting game. I don’t think it would have been as amusing as the head coach.

I didn’t look much at the last moment where the result was decided. I only focused on the mistakes during the game. I thought that it was out of my hands from mid-game and after that, I didn’t mind too much. It feels that we won through luck at the end.

You’ve secured at least 3rd place in the spring split. How was Round 2?

Round 2 felt similar to Round 1. We attempted many different things.

As the head coach of DragonX, what didn’t live up to your expectations and what was better than your expectations during the spring split?

Personally, there’s nothing that the team didn’t live up to my expectations. Everything was better than I thought. From living in the team house to gaming prowess, everything exceeded my expectations.

Doran and Pyosik seem to have grown a lot lately. What kind of feedback did you give them?

I give them feedback in very many areas. Mostly regarding the game. They’re obviously newer to the scene than Chovy or Deft, so I stay near them and use different methods.

Doran was sponsored by “GamdongRan” with boiled eggs. Some fans joked that cvMax would steal the eggs for protein.

(Laughs) We’re all sharing the eggs. Unlike the fans think, I don’t eat them that much.

You had praised Deft that he’s a perfect leader. As the head coach, what is there to learn from “leader” Deft?

Deft is a very warm-hearted person and has incredible leadership. Even as his head coach, there’s a lot that I need to learn from Deft. If Deft says he wants to be a head coach in the future, I’m sure that he’ll do well.

T1 and Gen.G are above you. You’ll be competing with them in the playoffs. Which team are you looking out for more?

I’m not thinking much about them. They’re about the same.

On the other hand, which team do you think can make the playoffs and get higher?

I guess kt Rolster or DAMWON Gaming would do well. Those two are the top candidates.

Lastly, a word to the fans?

Thank you for all the interest you have in us. I’ll do my best to improve our performances so that we can live up to your expectations.
