On the 1st of April (KST), T1 defeated Gen.G Esports 2-1 in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split. It was T1’s 11th win of the season. In the match, T1 bot laner Park “Teddy” Jin-seong played Kalista in all three games and contributed to the team’s victory. After the match, Teddy joined Inven Global in a video interview.
Congratulations on today’s win. Gen.G was in 1st place, so you would have felt some pressure as well as look forward to the game. How do you feel?
Obviously, I feel good that we won, but we also lost because we got too excited so I have mixed feelings. It’s a regretful win.
Even Faker said that he felt some pressure before today’s match. As much as Gen.G is in 1st place, you would have focused on some specifics. How did you prepare for today’s match?
We prepared a lot about the bottom picks.
Were you watching out for Ruler?
More than watching out for Ruler, it was Kalista and Taric. We focused on what to pick. Mostly about taking Kalista-Taric and about how to manage when they took them.
What do you think the strength Kalista-Taric has over Senna-Tahm Kench?
The teamfight capability. There’s a huge wall between the two when it comes to teamfights.
Hearing you say that makes it sound like a really big difference.
Senna-Tahm Kench isn’t that strong in the laning phase as well. Kalista-Taric wins no matter what in the late game.
You defeated Gen.G 2-1 in Round 1 as well. T1’s like a natural enemy to Gen.G. What do you think T1’s strength over Gen.G is?
I thought the biggest strength we have over other teams was that our concentration is really good, but seeing ourselves losing by getting too excited, I don’t think that’s it anymore. I think we drafted well today.
Aphelios’ damage was incredible. What do you think about Aphelios?
We kept thinking about Aphelios. He’s really good, but he’s manageable. I’m more confident in playing him, but it doesn’t really matter if the opponent takes him.
After seeing Ellim play and do well, some fans are looking forward to Gumayusi play. As a starter, what do you think he needs to improve to become a starting member?
There’s not much that I can advise. He’s simply good. Teamfights too. There’s not much that he lacks. Maybe the fact that he’s a rookie.
A ready-to-go player?
He’s a ready-to-go player.
According to the news, Faker shot a “World Cone” advertisement. He previously shot a Doritos ad as well. What kind of advertisement would you want to shoot? This could appeal to the companies. It could be an intro, could be a sports drink, cars…
I don’t know if I would be able to have the chance, but there’s a restaurant that I often go to. I wish they give me an ad. I really go there often. I really like it there.
Do they have your autograph there?
No. They don’t know me there…
You play against Griffin and DAMWON this week. It’s really hectic. How will you prepare?
I’ll prepare by finding good picks in the recent meta. As much as we’re on a winning streak, I’ll do my best to extend it.
Lastly, can you tell a ‘believe it or not’ as it is April Fool’s day?
I think I’ll play Vayne in the next match (Laughs).
