After a disappointing end to his last season with Echo Fox shutting down and selling their slot to Evil Geniuses, Colin "Solo" Earnest was unable to find a spot last off-season leading up to the 2020 Spring Split. However, a few weeks ago, FlyQuest signed Solo on as an assistant coach and potential substitute. Now, he makes his return to LCS, replacing Omran "V1per" Shoura in the top lane.
Solo has played professionally for a good few years, and got his first full time starting LCS position on Clutch Gaming in 2018. He helped take the team to the third place match in his opening season, but has yet to see any similar season finish since then. Clutch failed to qualify for Worlds that year, and he was traded to Echo Fox alongside two other teammates, Apollo "Apollo" Price and Nick "Hakuho" Surgent.
There, the team had a couple shaky splits, featuring numerous roster swaps across multiple positions. The Summer Split was further complicated with internal disputes and the eventual order from Riot to sell the LCS slot. Evil Geniuses bought them out, but didn't take on the player contracts, leaving each of them without a home.
Despite the rough years, Solo showed considerable growth and at times shone in the top lane amidst so many big names in the LCS, like Jung "Impact" Eon-yeong, Eric "Licorice" Ritchie, Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon, Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho..... Solo found another opportunity on FlyQuest, and after an 0-2 result in Week 7, they've decided to prune, hoping a fresh top laner may help them finish strong and secure playoffs.
Solo has played with Lucas "Santorin" Larsen before on Gold Coin United in 2017 (above) and was coached by both Lim "David" "DLim" Joo-sung and Anand "Curry" Agarwal on Clutch in 2018. Whether there are any signs of synergy left has yet to be seen, but he's also had a few weeks with the squad, including an extra due to the delay caused by COVID-19. Be sure to watch him and FlyQuest later today as they take on FlyQuest Immortals, where he takes on former teammates Apollo and Hakuho.
