Esports organization Evil Geniuses made waves Wednesday morning by announcing the signing of Dominique "SonicFox" McLean and Jon "dekillsage" Coello. SonicFox and dekillsage are two of the top competitors in the Fighting Game Community, and were previously signed together under the Echo Fox organization.

SonicFox is a generational fighting game talent, and currently holds the title for Mortal Kombat 11 as well as remaining a top competitor in DragonBall FighterZ. A rare underperformance kept SonicFox out of the top 8 of the season 2 DBFZ World Tour Finals, but their performance last summer at Red Bull Spain marked the only time eventual DBFZ World Champion, CYCLOPS athlete gaming's Goichi "GO1" Kishida, would lose a tournament he entered for the entire competitive season.

Always considered a top threat in DBFZ, dekillsage took his game to the next level throughout 2019 with the addition of the grapple-heavy Broly into his team. His performance at the World Tour Finals in France earlier this year earned dekillsage a 3rd place finish, and marks the highest level of play he has shown yet. “I'm really looking forward to competing and making content for a strong team like EG and learning how to Live Evil,” said dekillsage.

SonicFox's reputation has transcended the FGC after winning Esports Player of the Year at The Game Awards 2018 due to their authenticity and outspoken nature, especially around sociopolitical topics. SonicFox's comments have been labeled by critics as divisive, and in signing with Evil Geniuses, it looks like everyone's favorite furry has found a perfect match.

"I'm excited to join EG because now I can enable the anti-hero side of me hella hard," said SonicFox. "EG are all about living outside of the norm and standing up for those that don't have a voice, which is something I embody and stand for every day. I can't wait to see all the things we can do together."

In addition to expressing their excitement to join Evil Geniuses, SonicFox also had a message to the community on why they were joining the organization from a personal perspective: "Joining EG has enabled me to continue being true to myself, and to deliver that message to an even wider community. When the world's crazy, it's important to never lose sight of who you are, and I hope that I can speak to anyone who's struggling and encourage them to embrace what makes them unique."

Evil Geniuses has stormed back into the forefront of North American esports as of late. After acquiring the NRG Esports Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster, EG purchased the franchised spot in the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Spring Split that previously belonged to Echo Fox. In signing the two top North American FGC competitors, the 'LIVE EVIL' movement continues to gain momentum across multiple competitive spaces in esports and gaming.
