Last week, Evil Geniuses announced that their original Academy mid laner's visa had been approved, and Ahmad "Giyuu" Charif would finally be joining the team. He replaces Aidan "5fire" Reckamp, who has been the interim mid since Week 2. But 5fire did well in his time there, helping the team climb to third place, even after an 0-2 start in Week 1 without him.
Tweet from a Riot Games QA Analyst (who is Challenger and knows more than most about LoL)
Since joining the team, Evil Geniuses and 5fire have gone 8-4. While he doesn't have the most incredible KDA (sitting at just under 3), 5fire has 70% kill participation and has worked well with his team to assist in their rise to 3rd place. Additionally, his KDA in the second half of his shortened split was more than double that of the first half. And his last three games nearly quadruple his KDA from the early season games.
It's safe to say he grew a lot in the 6 weeks he got to play, and he made a pretty big impression on the league. There was a lot of frustration and confusion from fans, high elo players, and 5fire's former teammates in response to Evil Geniuses' announcement.
While his time on EG this Spring may be up, it is likely 5fire will be picked up for the Summer Split. He was arguably better than some portion of the current Academy mids, plus the potential of Academy players pushing to join an LCS roster, opening more slots as well. For instance, if Tanner "Damonte" Damonte was picked up for Summer, Dignitas would be a great home for 5fire to learn even more amidst so many industry veterans on the team.
5fire was drafted by CLG in the 2019 NASG draft, but wasn't signed by the team. However, they may be a strong candidate to sign him this Summer, being the first Academy team knocked out of playoffs. If none make space for the talent, at the worst, "there's always next year." 5fire has left an impression on the league, and we haven't seen the last of him. #5fighting
