The outbreak of COVID-19 has affected esports events around the globe, and now, the League of Legends Championship Series is taking further precautionary measures. Post-game handshakes between teams, victory high fives from players to fans, and fanmeets will no longer occur in the 2020 LCS Spring Split, and will be suspended indefinitely due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The official message was given by LCS Commissioner Chris Greeley, which was posted to the official LCS twitter account on the morning of Friday, March 6. The message reads as follows:

"The dynamic and rapidly-evolving situation around COVID-19 (aka Coronavirus) is concerning to us, like the rest of the industry. The health and safety of our pro players, fans, and employees remain our top priority.

For the 2020 Spring Finals this April, we're carefully monitoring the situation in Frisco, TX and we're in close contact with the venue and local governments to ensure we're compliant with on-the-ground changes.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the Coronavirus outbreak, we'll be suspending fan meets, victory high fives, and post-game handshakes at LCS games until further notice. As these precautions may disappoint some of our fans, we'll be offering refunds to ticket holders who prefer not to attend our games at LCS-tickets@riotgames.com.

We're working on keeping our partners, teams, and the community updated in a timely way. We appreciate your support and patience during this time as we continue to assess the situation around the Coronavirus outbreak."

The LCS Spring Finals, as of now, are still planned to take place in Frisco, TX on Saturday, April 18. One day before the LCS announcement, Psyonix Gaming cancelled the Season 9 Rocket League World Championship, which was to be hosted in nearby Dallas, TX from April 24 - April 26.
