On the 5th (KST), the two matches in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split were SANDBOX Gaming vs. Gen.G Esports and Afreeca Freecs vs. T1. It was the last match of Round 1 for all four teams. Gen.G defeated their counterpart and continued the winning streak. In Game 2 between Afreeca Freecs and T1, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok collected his 2,000th LCK kill. However, Faker’s milestone was shaded as Afreeca took the 2-1 victory.
Game 1 of the first match involved more than 40 kills. The two teams fought fiercely and had advantageous moments. Both teams slew both Baron and Elder once. However, SANDBOX wasn’t able to stand Gen.G’s last rush with both Baron and Elder buffs and fell to Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s pentakill. Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee played his role with Irelia well and was voted as Player of the Game.
SANDBOX Gaming let through Ornn in the following game and Gen.G Esports picked up both Ornn and Sett. Compared to Game 1, the second game was one-sided. Although it was SANDBOX that let Ornn through, they weren’t able to prove Ornn’s high winrate (69.4%) otherwise. Gen.G Esports took the 2-0 victory and placed themselves at the top of the standings with an 8-1 record. The Player of the Game for this game was Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong on Sett.
Afreeca had a bad start in Game 1, where they gave up four kills as they got isolated in T1's jungle. T1 snowballed the advantage well and Afreeca made a few situations where they hit back, but it wasn't enough to stop T1's avalanche. Faker collected 9 kills and was voted as the Player of the Game.
In Game 2, Afreeca clenched to their initiative in bot lane as Jin “Mystic” Seong-jun’s Kalista gained four kills in 13 minutes. Afreeca kept their lead and collected the dragon buffs and soul. After slaying the second Baron, Afreeca marched through T1’s base and destroyed the Nexus. During the game, Faker collected his 2,000th LCK kill, but the Player of the Game was Lee “Dread” Jin-hyuk, who was subbed in this game.
The 3rd game was closer than any other match this season. T1 and Afreeca Freecs fought extremely fiercely throughout the match and each took three dragons. The game seesawed back and forth until a Baron fight at the 41-minute mark. As Afreeca came out on top with an ace, they were able to close the game for their 6th win of the season. Dread performed well on Lee Sin and was voted as the Player of the Game again.
