Fans have been waiting for the location of the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational to be announced, but it seems that they’ll have to keep waiting a while longer. Riot has said that the outbreak of Coronavirus has thrown a serious wrench into their plans, but that they still plan to host the event.

“I know that many of you are waiting for the details of the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational-- and we are eager to share them,” John Needham, Global Head of Esports for Riot Games said. “However, as countries around the world respond to COVID-19, we’ve had to adjust our plans and delay announcing the timing and location of MSI 2020.”

"As countries respond to Coronavirus, we've had to adjust our plans."

The Mid-Season Invitational has been a decent preview of what to expect as teams prepare for their summer push towards the World Championship, and with the Spring Split nearing its completion, fans are understandably getting antsy about making travel arrangements.

“The Mid-Season Invitational is a showcase of the best teams in our sport,” Needham continued. “Our goal is to meet your expectations of a globally inclusive tournament that sees the participation of all of our leagues.”

Riot closed out their statement thanking fans for their continued support and a promise that they would update as soon as possible.

The outbreak of Coronavirus continues to affect League of Legends esports in drastic ways, including the complete postponing of the LPL season that was set to kick off in January, and an ongoing bar on live audiences at the LCK.

In other esports, Overwatch League’s APAC homestand games in China and Korea have been canceled, with plans still TBD as to when they will be made up.
