On the 23rd (KST), Hanwha Life Esports took on Griffin in Week 3 of the 2020 LCK Spring. With a set score of 2-1, HLE took down Griffin to pick up their 3rd match win of the season. Despite a rocky Game 2, HLE was able to close out the series on Griffin and solidify themselves in the middle of the standings with a 3-3 record.
The support for HLE, Son “Lehends” Si-woo joined the Press Room to talk about the match victory against Griffin.
Thoughts on tonight’s victory?
It was a time where a win was necessary for our team, and personally, I’m really glad that I beat Griffin. Before the match, Tarzan told me that he’s going to kill me a lot, and Viper said that he’s going to do a little ceremony. I’m glad that they didn’t get to do either of them.
What kind of feedback did you receive from the coaching staff after your loss in Game 2?
There were multiple areas to fix, so rather than focusing on each and every one of them, we just played very differently with a different playstyle.
In your previous matches, HLE sometimes drafted unorthodox team compositions, yet today, the team’s draft seemed rather standard. Can you tell us about the mindset behind your drafts tonight?
Although we play a lot of unorthodox team comps, we wanted to show that we can also play standard team compositions. It really depends on the situation, and we decided that playing standard was the way to victory against Griffin.
Thoughts on the current meta in competitive play?
Compared to last year, objectives spawn earlier, so I think that playing more aggressively and proactively is the way to win. Although there are a lot of teams in leagues overseas that win from behind, I don’t think there’s much of that in the LCK.
Thoughts on Rumble support? And just as unorthodox Rumble is, when will we see your famous Elise support?
Again, it depends on the team comp, but I think that because of how strong Rumble is, he has the potential to solo kill marksman characters. It becomes even stronger when upper lanes are ahead. In terms of Elise, I’ll use it when coach NoFe tells me to use it.
You play with two bot laners, Lava and Vsta, yet they’re both players that role swapped. Can you tell us about how it feels to play with players from different roles?
We play scrims with both players, so both can start any time. Lava has a big champion pool, while Vsta plays very aggressively, even when he’s face-tanking damage. However, I think that Vsta’s strong point can also be a weakness.
Lastly, can you say something to your fans?
I’m glad that we took a match win tonight, and in these desperate times, we’ll make sure to have fun while we continue to hunt for wins.
