On the 19th of February (KST), Gen.G Esports took on Hanwha Life Esports in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split. Gen.G Esports had a quick 2-0 win and stepped up to second place. One of the biggest surprises in the match was that Sett was picked as support in the second game. After the match, Gen.G Esports support, Kim “Life” Jeong-min joined the media room for an interview.
It was a quick 2-0 victory. How do you feel?
Unlike expected, we won without much trouble. It feels like that I didn’t do anything but we won.
How was it different? Did you expect it to be closer?
I didn’t think we would win this easily. I thought we would make more mistakes and the game would be more fierce.
It’s your first game of the season. How was it?
I was really nervous before the match, almost as much as my debut game, but as I played, it all went away and I was able to play like usual.
You’re competing with Kellin for the starting spot in the team. Why do you think you started today?
The coaching staff probably knows why I started today. I didn’t think about it because I was afraid I would get a headache if I do.
What do you think your advantage over Kellin is?
I think I take more initiative. My biggest strength is making shot calls.
You’re eighth in the solo queue ladder, and it seems like that you practice a lot. Is it because you’re competing to be the starting support of the team?
Partially, yes. I also tried to get higher because some people get intimidated by my rank if I get high.
You played Rumble and Sett. They’re both unconventional picks for the support position.
I picked them to take advantage of the picks & bans. Also, I think there aren’t any support champions that are good. I just wanted to take half-half in the laning phase and get the slightest advantage for later in the game. I think these champions are more effective in solo queue.
Your next match is against DragonX. How do you think it’ll go?
DragonX seems to like having a lot of teamfights. Teamfights are usually won by the team that has better team play synergy or mechanics. We’re also quite good in those aspects so if we fight well, we’ll be able to have positive results.
Lastly, a word to the fans?
We’ll show you clean performances without mistakes through better teamwork.
