On the 14th (KST), Gen.G Esports defeated DAMWON Gaming 2-0 in the 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Spring Split. In the recent meta, the average game time had increased but Gen.G stepped their gears up and closed the games in their victory quite early. After the match, Kim “Kellin” Hyeong-gyu joined the media room for an interview.
How do you feel winning today’s match?
I’m happy that we won 2-0 and that my performance today was quite good.
DAMWON picked Ivern in the first game. What did you think and how did you plan to play against it?
We knew how to deal with Ivern so we discussed how we would play against it. We mostly talked about getting the vision in the jungle.
When Ivern stole Shelly, weren’t you frustrated?
Actually, I didn’t even know it was stolen. The fight position wasn’t that good so we stepped back. Even if it was stolen, we weren’t that worried because our comp was good.
Last time you were interviewed, you said everything was new and that it’s awkward. Is it better now?
It’s still awkward, but I think I’m adapting little by little.
You played Braum in both games. Do you think you carried out your role well?
During practice, Braum was good and my teammates also said that he was good. Although Braum’s weak in the laning phase, I needed to do well in teamfights around objectives and I think I did pretty well.
Sett and Aphelios both weren’t banned, but Gen.G didn’t pick Apehlios. Is there a specific reason?
All teams make different choices. We picked Sett because we decided that Sett was better. As for Aphelios, Ruler said that it’s alright. Ruler’s good at countering Aphelios.
Your next match is against T1. How will you prepare?
I think T1 is a strong team and they're doing well these days, but if we just do our best as we always did, we can win.
