The League of Legends Championship Series is just over a week away, and today the North American competition revealed what side content fans can expect during the 2020 season, as provided by two of the league's partners. Payment company Mastercard is expanding the content it provides, while new partner GreenPark Sports will jump aboard the ship as a new content partner.
During the LCS' 2019 season, Mastercard sponsored the Summer Finals opening ceremonies, and worked on a documentary series telling the stories of the competition's legendary players. In 2020, they'll host a "Player of the Week" award as well. On social media, fans can predict which player they think will be crowned Player of the Week.
At the end of Monday, when the Monday Night League games have finished, a panel of Riot staff and LCS casters decide which player performed exceptionally well enough to receive the award. The winning player, as well as fifteen fans who predicted correctly, will receive a customized statue: a 3D model of the player, made by Doob. People who own a Mastercard credit card will have a chance to enter a special giveaway, handing out all nine Player of the Week trophies at the end of the Spring Split.
New partner GreenPark Sports will develop an application which lets LCS fans interact with the competition in a new way. The product is still in development, however, and will launch later this year. GreenPark Sports is a startup company co-founded by former YouTube CEO and co-founder Chad Hurley, founder and former CEO of Zappos Nick Swinmurn, and co-founder and former CCO of Blitz Ken Martin. Its goal is to expand and improve what fantasy leagues achieve in traditional sports, and involve fans more in the competition.
