Evil Geniuses has announced their Academy bot lane, signing support, Matthew "Matt" Elento, and keeping ADC, Matthew "Deftly" Chen, after acquiring him in the large buyout from Cloud9. The duo played together for the entire 2018 season, so they should be a solid bot for the Academy system.

Most recently, Deftly played for Cloud9 under Sneaky, but even got to play one stage match at Worlds, going 5/0/2 against Hong Kong Attitude. Earlier in the Summer, he was on GGS Academy, after being replaced on the main roster in the break between 2019 Spring and Summer Split. Matt was most recently on Team Liquid Academy, making it to the semis in the Spring, but falling out in the Quarters this Summer.

With Bae "Bang" Jun-sik and Tristan "Zeyzal" Stidam on the starting team, it's unlikely that the two will be competing for starting spots throughout the season unless the LCS duo falter or fail to find synergy. But the strong presence and veteran experience both Matts have in the bot lane could open up Evil Geniuses' potential to bring on some other younger talent. The rest of their squad is yet to be announced, but stay tuned for more details as the season approaches.
