Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles, longtime esports caster, announced his departure from the Overwatch League on the last day of the decade, citing "creative and philosophical differences." Monte has 15 years of experience, and began his casting career with Warcraft 3. With his departure, he leaves behind his longtime partner Erik "DoA" Lonnquist, after casting together for seven years between the LCK and OWL.

In his Twitter thread, Monte lays out his future career plans, and hints at several projects he is working on. He will stop producing his own personal Overwatch content and instead focus elsewhere, continuing as on-camera talent, but expanding as a producer, director, and more. Monte was a co-founder of esports advisory firm, Theorycraft, earlier this year, and will now have more time available for his company as well.

Monte's departure marks yet another Overwatch pro/personality retiring this year. Scott "Custa" Kennedy and Jake "Jake" Lyon both retired as pros but later joined the Watchpoint talent team. Overwatch has some really big plans for 2020, but with Monte's criticism and pros retiring, fans and investors should keep a close eye on how those plans play out in the long run.
